On October 2, 2024, Associate Professor Dr. Uthen Kamnan, Acting President of Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL), joined in taking photos and congratulating students from the BIM and 3D Model RMUTL Club in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Program, Faculty of Engineering, RMUTL Chiang Mai. These students have brought honor to both the university and Thailand by winning two major awards in The 9th Academic Contest, "The Future Civil Engineers 2024" (TFCE 2024), held at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, Vietnam.
The "Eco Guardians" team, comprised of Mr. Surasak Sukchangcharoen, Mr. Nattawut Pasit, and Mr. Noppaisit Wichuaekkamon, civil and environmental engineering students from RMUTL, participated under the mentorship of Dr. Pornpoj Nusen and Mr. Dittidet Rachphayakom during the competition held from September 20-22, 2024.
This competition involved 24 teams from four Southeast Asian countries, including 20 teams from Vietnam, two from Thailand, and two from Indonesia and Brunei, and it was divided into three rounds.
In the first round, 15 teams were selected based on building designs under the theme "Building/Construction Adaptation to Climate Change" and their concept presentations. The second round tested practical skills in surveying and bricklaying, narrowing the field to six final teams. The final round involved answering academic civil engineering questions and presenting detailed building designs.
The Eco Guardians team advanced to the final round and won two key awards:
Associate Professor Dr. Uthen Kamnan congratulated the students and praised the talent of the Thai youth for bringing honor to the university and the country. "This achievement demonstrates the potential of RMUTL students to compete internationally. It is a source of pride for the university and Thailand. This success is the result of our policy to promote quality education, especially by integrating entrepreneurship education into the RMUTL context. We not only teach theory but also emphasize practical application and innovative thinking, helping our students develop diverse skills to face real-world challenges. This success confirms that we are on the right path in producing quality graduates who are ready to become the new generation of entrepreneurs driving the country's economy forward."
Mr. Noppaisit Wichuaekkamon, a representative of the BIM and 3D Model RMUTL team, shared his experience in the competition: "Participating in this international competition has shown us that Thai students have the knowledge and ability to compete with other ASEAN nations. We have strengths in creativity and problem-solving, but there are areas we need to improve, especially the variety of programs we use in our work and English language skills, which are crucial for presenting work and communicating on the international stage."
He further added, "This experience has highlighted the importance of learning outside the classroom, gaining hands-on experience, and exchanging knowledge with peers from other countries. It aligns with the university's philosophy of producing professional graduates who can create technology and innovation for sustainable communities. We will take these experiences and insights to further develop ourselves and share them with our peers to prepare for future competitions."
The success of the Eco Guardians team has not only brought recognition to the university but also serves as an inspiration for future students to develop themselves and reach the international stage. It marks another significant step for RMUTL, showcasing its readiness to produce quality personnel to support the country's future development.
The integration of entrepreneurship education at RMUTL not only enhances academic skills but also focuses on developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork, which are essential qualities that the current job market demands. Additionally, it aligns with the government's policy of promoting new entrepreneurs to drive the country's economy.
This success reflects the quality of education at RMUTL and serves as a prime example of an education system that meets the needs of both the country and the global stage. It is a significant step in raising the standard of Thai education to international levels and inspiring other educational institutions to modernize their curricula and teaching methods. Enhancing English language skills and increasing the variety of programs used in teaching and learning will be key areas of focus for RMUTL and other institutions to prepare students for future international competitions.
